Grade 9 Up—Charles Dickens's classic tale of one family's suffering during the French Revolution is brought to life in this audio adaptation. The voice of Audie Award-winning narrator Simon Vance sets the tone for the characters and creates the Dickensesqe mood of the times when the rich and the poor were far apart and no one was exempt from the ensuing wrath during the Revolution. Vance's stone varies from soothing to animated while creating different voices for the characters and using appropriate accents. A bonus feature on the last CD is an e-book in pdf format that can be printed or used as a read-along while listening to the audio. This easily navigated feature would be particularly helpful for struggling readers.—Jeana Actkinson, Bridgeport High School, TX

Review
[A Tale of Two Cities] has the best of Dickens and the worst of Dickens: a dark, driven opening, and a celestial but melodramatic ending; a terrifyingly demonic villainess and (even by Dickens standards) an impossibly angelic heroine. Though its version of the French Revolution is brutally simplified, its engagement with the immense moral themes of rebirth and terror, justice, and sacrifice gets right to the heart of the matter . . . For every reader in the past hundred and forty years and for hundreds to come, it is an unforgettable ride. from the Introduction by Simon Schama --abc

Fraudulent Advertising
By Galen Heneghan
I did not realize that, to avoid being scammed, it was necessary to read a complete description of this product, including customer reviews, before purchasing. This book, listed as a paperback version of A Tale of Two Cities, is, in fact, a "retelling", I suppose for children! What an unscrupulous seller! There is an obvious intent to mislead here. Beware is right! Don't buy from this seller!

Amazing novel, but font too small on this book
By coloradostevie
The novel is great, this is not a review of the novel. This particular book/product is the paperback from Barnes and Noble classics. I really appreciated the intro which includes the history surrounding the time of the novel. However, the print of this book is very small; I usually don't have problems with font size in books, but this is significantly small...tiny.

Such a good story
By M. Heiss
I love this story.
I'm a read aloud mom with a family of boys, and they LOVED this story! Very enthusiastic listening.
The thing with Dickens is all the characters are people. Every one is a portrait and a caricature at the same time. My kids drew while I read this aloud to them.
A great story about the misery inflicted by the politics of revenge. Still apt today.
This edition is not high quality. The paper is very bad and the ink stinks.
