Grim Batol: its dark legacy stretches back into the mists of Azeroth's past. Though a band of heroes, led by the enigmatic mage, Krasus, defeated the orcs and freed the captive dragons, the cursed mountain stands as another ravaged landmark within the...

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

But now Krasus -- known to some as the red dragon Korialstrasz -- senses the malice of Grim Batol rising once more to threaten those he holds dear. Determined this time to confront this evil by himself, he is unaware of the quests that will draw others to Grim Batol and reveal the monstrous truth that could not only herald their deaths, but usher in a terrible new age of darkness and destruction.

This book was both excellent and frustrating all at the same time
By Gregory J. Phillips
This book was both excellent and frustrating all at the same time. The action was non-stop, and I couldn't put it down. I had to read it cover to cover in one sitting, which is usually the sign of an excellent epic story. However, it is my personal pet peeve when an author sets up rules for a fantasy world and then ignores basic ideas, such as there IS NOT AN ENDLESS supply of minions to slaughter. No matter how many lesser minions the heroes dispatched, there were more suicidal minions right there on patrol, ready to attack the clearly superior heroes.

Another personal pet peeve of mine, (spoiler alert) was that the main character never seemed to learn from his mistakes. The main character is a mighty dragon mage named Krasus. Krasus in the end leaves hundreds of evil dragon eggs in the Grim Batol mountain, despite the fact that time after time evil springs anew from Grim Batol mountain.Did Krasus go back to make sure the lava had destroyed all the evil dragon eggs? Of course not! He neither fried the eggs when he first came upon them due to his annoying perpetual weakness throughout the book, nor does he feel that a look around is worth while at the end, despite the fact that the eggs, when hatched, will spell the end of the world. Sheer stupidity on the part of who is supposed to be the world's premier dragon mage.

And just like Batman, the big bad guy never seems to die at the end of the story, but instead can be reincarnated for another story. We find out Death wing is alive. How a massive evil dragon hides from everyone is never explained. The recycled villain theme feels similar to the Star Wars saga, which just can't seem to get another plot line besides that the big bad empire is building another super weapon.

Still another pet peeve is that the story just isn't savage enough. The priest Iridi took no pleasure in decimating her foes. It seemed to pain her to rid evil from the earth, preferring to disable her foes rather than grind them slowly into dust. She was such a goody-two-shoes that I got irritated by her. Only the evil villains seem evil enough.

As a last pet peeve, the mage Krasus was almost always weakened. Other than the first few chapters in which he decimates an undead lich army (which was very satisfying to read), Krasus is tired, weakened, or otherwise hobbled so that one cannot revel in the true might of a dragon.I could forgive and get over all of these flaws, if he would have just gone back to the cavern and fried the evil dragon eggs. Curse words insert here.

All that being said, the action is non stop, the plot is interesting, and I would recommend it to any one who can ignore the obvious flaws that I have mentioned. It was a good read. 4 stars, but not five.

I think the author is a skilled writer, and one day I hope to be able to write my own WoW novel.

Good for sleepy time I guess
By Kimberley Deuel
I have loved every Warcraft book Richard A Knaak has written that I could read on my Kindle except this one. The story floats around too much and I had a hard time keeping up. I generally read before I go to sleep, and some of his work has kept me up till the wee hours of the morning. This one had me passing out after just a couple pages. I just didn't find the characters very interesting like I did with his other works. I did not read the book before this one because I can't get it on Kindle. That might have helped.

This was really poor quality, but I did get the Kindle edition ...
By Nate
Does he not understand paragraph structure? It has a jarring quality where the story jumps from one character to the next without so much as a paragraph break. If I hadn't read other Knaak books I would have guessed this was his first based on the quality alone. Was there an editor? I don't think so. Or if there was he should be let go. This was really poor quality, but I did get the Kindle edition so maybe it is better on paper but I doubt it. I want my 1.99 back.
