Great Book. Change doesn't happen overnight.

This book is for those who what to truly explore themselves. There are a lot of assignments throughout the book. If you can't handle doing them then the book is quite a waste of your time. I will admit is is not something you are going to complete in a week. I had to set the book down and step away for a week or so a few times. but it is worth the time and effort. I have learned and am continuing to learn (I'm on chapter 10) a lot about why it is I choose who I chose to bring into my life. I am hoping to have greater insight and therefore greater love.

Be Married, Or Be Doomed to Being a Half-Person

The book's main premise is a good one: namely, that we choose mates who provide the same issues for us as our caretakers did, and that by working through these same problems as we had as children, consciously using our mates instead of our caretakers, that we can heal. That is certainly one way to heal from childhood wounds. Unlike Hendrix, however, I do not agree that marriage is the only way to heal and that there is no other- as he clearly states in the beginning. What? What about the traditions of Buddhist or Christian monks who live a life of contemplation- which for centuries has been the go-to method for "becoming whole"? Is the Dalai Lama not a "whole person"? To say that marriage is the only way to become a whole person is like a tract from a 1950's marriage manual. This is one way, but there are others as well. Also, I found some of the questionnaire questions to be misleading and subject to different interpretations. Some of them are too broad and can apply to opposing issues. The concept that one can pinpoint exactly what they need in a mate by answering a series of questionnaires has some merit to it; but is simplistic in a number of ways. And for all those people for whom marriage is not a likely option (all the women of a certain age, who watch men their own age find women 10, 15 and 20 years younger, while the pool of single women their age grows), the book is callous in its ignorance of these facts.

Found the book to be convoluted, hard to read and quite frankly antiquated... far better relationship or Love books out there... Try Calling In the One..
