For days, smoke, steam, and the plaintive cries of the dying issued from the hole.
From ground level, it looked as if someone had built a new opening to hell. Norwegian authorities wisely stayed far away. The few travelers who noticed the smoke from the highway and tried to approach were dissuaded by the immediate stink of death, the electric madness that coursed through the air and set their teeth on edge and made their hair stand up, even the sight of the occasional filthy survivor, with matted hair and ragged clothes and open wounds.
Everywhere was blood, blood, blood.
So nobody bore witness to the ones who pushed through the wall of stench.
They drove as far as they could on a road made impassable by heavy snow, then got out and walked, carrying their equipment and supplies.
Approaching the hole, their booted feet broke through red snow. They stood at the holeÕs rim for a while, shoveling through snow and debris, talking about the sight in soft voices, making notes, one taking digital photographs to document the scene. They swallowed hard, chuckled, patted each otherÕs shoulders with gloved hands, and stamped their feet against the coldÑwhatever it took to remind them that they were still upright, their bodies more or less whole, and that they wouldnÕt see anyone like themselves inside the gaping pit.
Then they went inside.

Doesn't deliver
By Dr. K
Just as I was becoming a fan of this series "Eternal Damnation: Book 3" comes out. I'll be brief. I didn't like it. Instead of getting better, as Book 2 did from Book 1, Book 3 takes a step backward. I could go on about my problems with this book, but I won't. I'll focus on two critical areas: storyline and character development. The storyline in this is rather dull, almost academic (as in 2 + 2 = 4). Character development, which was so prevalent in Book 2, is kept to a minimum. In summary: Book 1 had the gore, Book 2 had the story, Book 3 had me wishing I hadn't purchased it. Simply put, I expected better. On a positive note, which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1, it continues along the same general storyline of the previous two books, connecting some dots and leaving some openings for better offerings in the future. Cheers.

Rather enjoyed it - a few flaws - but definitely worth the time.
By Tash50Tash50
I read the previous two books in this trilogy and enjoyed them immensely. (I read all 3 in a little over 48 hours - didn't want to put them down.) That said, I was wary about the third installment (this book) as the reviews were not as popular or consistent as the others. Several reviews said this was a waste of a book and the weakest of three as well as some other strong negative opines.
I read anyway as I love the characters, story lines, and of course...wanted to know what happens to several of the undead and not undead people we've been following.
The story line (IMO) was not as far fetched as some of the previous lines in book 1 & 2 with emphasis on book 2. Besides, it's vampire literature, we are reading plots on fictional creatures and suspended or stretched imagination, depending on your view. So is it not to be expected that there will be a few out of the norm situations? Or do you prefer your fairy tales believable? I like mine well written, clever, with action and great character development. If the plot is a little out of the norm well, we aren't exactly reading about likely situations, are we?
My issue with this book which caused a 3 as opposed to a 4 or greater star rating is this book fell quite a bit short on one of the most important elements of a story for me. Charectorization. Yes, we are dealing with many established characters however, we have new circumstances in this book and the motivations, directions, back stories, etc., are not fleshed out as well as they previously have been. Or rather, what I've come to expect from the writers.
There is much more I wanted to know about existing and new persons/situations in this book that I don't and the book is poorer for it and you can feel it in the read. It's very obvious, to me...for my reading experience and expectations of these writers, that it's missing and a flaw.
The flaw aside, I DID enjoy the book and would recommend it and can't fathom that readers of this trilogy overlook it because of the issue stated above. You do have a good story, get answers to questions and an engaging reading experience. I can only hope there is more about what happens next as the ending was a little unsatisfying BUT it's because it leaves you thirsty for more, because it ended on the note it did not because it was a cruddy story.
I would for sure read and would recommend this series to others.
Overall: it is not the best of the trilogy but not one to miss either.
